From there, Capitol Hill is about 10 minutes on foot, Pioneer Square and the Chinatown-International District are a short Link light rail ride south, Seattle Center is about 2 minutes by monorail, and West Seattle is a 10 to 15-minute Water Taxi crossing from Pier 50.

Downtown and Pike Place

The center of everything for a visitor. Downtown Seattle holds the Seattle Convention Center, the Paramount Theatre, the Westlake and Pacific Place shopping blocks, the Central Library and the Seattle Art Museum. Pike Place Market sits at its western edge on the bluff above Elliott Bay, and the waterfront, with the Aquarium and the Great Wheel, is below it. Our building at 1400 Hubbell Place is here, a 3-minute walk from the Convention Center.

Best for: first visits, conventions, short trips without a car. Getting there: Link light rail from the airport to Westlake.

Belltown

North of Pike Place along First and Second Avenues, Belltown is a dense area of apartments, bars and restaurants between the market and Seattle Center. It is walkable from downtown.

Seattle Center and Queen Anne

Seattle Center is home to the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden and Glass, MoPOP and Climate Pledge Arena, where the Kraken play. Queen Anne rises steeply to the north. Getting there: the Seattle Center Monorail from Westlake Center, about 2 minutes.

South Lake Union

North of downtown, around the southern tip of Lake Union, South Lake Union is a modern office district with restaurants and the lake shore. It is walkable from our building or a short bus or streetcar ride.

Capitol Hill

Just east of the Convention Center across Interstate 5, Capitol Hill is Seattle's busiest restaurant, bar and nightlife neighborhood, centered on Pike/Pine, Broadway and Cal Anderson Park. Getting there: about 10 minutes on foot, or one Link stop from Westlake. See our Capitol Hill food walk.

Pioneer Square

Seattle's oldest neighborhood, south of downtown, with brick and stone buildings, galleries, the Underground Tour (614 1st Ave) and the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park visitor center (319 Second Ave S). Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park are just south. Getting there: Link to Pioneer Square station, or walk.

Chinatown-International District

South-east of Pioneer Square, with restaurants, shops and the Wing Luke Museum at 719 S King St. Getting there: Link to International District/Chinatown station.

First Hill

Uphill from downtown, just east across Interstate 5, First Hill is Seattle's hospital district, with Swedish, Virginia Mason and Harborview. See our hospital stays guide.

West Seattle

Across Elliott Bay to the south-west, West Seattle is known for Alki Beach and its views back at the skyline. Getting there: the King County Water Taxi from Pier 50, about 10 to 15 minutes, per King County.

Farther out: Fremont, Ballard and Phinney Ridge

North of the Lake Washington Ship Canal, these neighborhoods have their own main streets and restaurants. Woodland Park Zoo is at 5500 Phinney Ave N. They are a bus or ride-hail trip from downtown.
