★ 4.83 · 81 reviewsTravel nurse housing in Seattle: a monthly-stay guide
For a travel nurse contract at Virginia Mason, Swedish First Hill or Harborview, downtown Seattle is one of the shortest commutes: our building at 1400 Hubbell Place is about 0.2, 0.5 and 0.7 miles from those hospitals in a straight line. UW Medical Center–Montlake is a direct Link light rail ride from Westlake Station, about 7 minutes' walk away. Each furnished 2-bedroom has a full kitchen and an in-unit washer & dryer, and we quote weekly and monthly stays on request.

Why location matters on a long contract
Travel contracts often run for weeks or months, and hospital shifts are long. A long commute on top of that wears you down fast. When you compare housing, start with three questions:
- How long is the trip to the hospital at shift change? Early starts and late finishes are when buses run least often and ride-hail costs most.
- Is the route safe and simple after a night shift? A short, direct commute matters more than you might expect after a 12-hour shift.
- Can I do laundry and cook at home? Scrubs need washing several times a week, and cooking saves money over a whole contract.
Commutes from 1400 Hubbell Place
Our building sits in downtown Seattle at the foot of First Hill. Straight-line distances measured from OpenStreetMap coordinates, with our walking estimates:
- Virginia Mason, 1100 9th Ave: about 0.2 mi, roughly a 5-minute walk.
- Swedish First Hill, 747 Broadway: about 0.5 mi, roughly 10 minutes uphill.
- Harborview, 325 9th Ave: about 0.7 mi, roughly 20 minutes uphill.
- Fred Hutch South Lake Union, 1100 Fairview Ave N: about 1.0 mi; most people take a bus, car or ride-hail.
- UW Medical Center–Montlake, 1959 NE Pacific St: about 2.7 mi. Walk about 7 minutes to Westlake Station and take Link light rail north to University of Washington Station, across the street from the hospital.
Check Sound Transit's 1 Line schedule for first and last trains if your shifts start or end very early or late. Virginia Mason's directions page also notes that King County Metro's RapidRide G Line serves First Hill along Spring and Seneca streets.
What to look for in furnished housing
A furnished apartment for a month or more should cover the basics without extra purchases:
- A real kitchen, not just a microwave: oven, cookware and a full-size fridge.
- In-unit laundry. Every one of our apartments has an in-unit washer & dryer.
- A good bed and a dark, quiet bedroom, especially for night shifts.
- Wi-Fi and a place to work for charting courses, license paperwork and video calls home.
- Clear written terms: payment schedule, deposit, cancellation and house rules.
- A secure building. Ours has a front-desk concierge and an on-site building manager.
Our apartments for clinicians
All three apartments are furnished two-bedrooms in one downtown building, professionally cleaned after every stay:
- The Top-Floor 2BR: sleeps 5, top floor so no one is above you, dedicated workspace, portable air conditioning.
- The Lumière 2BR: sleeps 6, round table that seats four.
- The Two-Bath 2BR: sleeps 6, two full bathrooms, good for two clinicians sharing on different shifts.
Two bedrooms make it possible to split one apartment with a colleague, or to host a partner or family visiting during your contract.

- House rules: no pets (service animals welcome), non-smoking, quiet hours 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
